We're so proud of our Monticello High School football players who represented the district so well at the Rotary Club meeting on August 7th! 🐗🏈
The players had the opportunity to speak to the club about their hard work during summer practice and their excitement for the upcoming season. It's great to see them not only excelling on the field but also building important connections within our community.
Pictured are Coach Shannon Carter, Head Coach, Randy Harvey, and Coach Seth Oxner. Players #51 Davarious Brown and #79 Asher Lanehart.

⭐❤️This recognition is so well-deserved. Congratulations, Maggie! We can't wait to see all the amazing things you'll continue to accomplish.
Philanthropic is not often a word used to describe the average high school senior, but August’s Hometown Hero, Maggie Fakouri embodies every sense of the word.
Maggie, 18, was raised in Drew County, attends Monticello High School and is the daughter of Michael and Michelle Fakouri. She has two younger brothers, a passion for tennis, and serving her community.
She fell in love with tennis during her freshman year in high school and has been playing ever since.
“I use it as an outlet,” Maggie stated. “I forget everything else and just play. It really brings me joy.”
A few years ago, a tennis tournament was held in Monticello, and the proceeds went to benefit The CALL. Maggie picked up the torch two years ago, and with the help of Crystal Noble, Margo Stevens, and Mia Reginelli, the tournament has stayed alive.
“I really like the message behind The CALL,” Maggie added. “The organization is Christian based and just has a soft spot in my heart.”
Through hosting the benefit tennis tournament, Maggie has learned to step outside her comfort zone and not be intimidated to try new things.
“I wanted to help provide another summer activity for kids in Monticello,” Maggie said. “The tournament can be a competitive outlet for kids in a small town with limited options. This gives the students an opportunity to showcase what they learned during their summer tennis lessons and, it's just kids being physically active and having fun.”
Physical fitness is an important factor in Maggie’s life. When she isn’t on the tennis court, she enjoys spending time at Paradigm Fitness and cheering on the Billies. She is also a part of the student leadership team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, the Renaissance team and a member of First Baptist Church.
After she graduates, Maggie plans to attend the University of Arkansas. She is considering several majors.
“I just want people to know that I am always approachable,” Maggie noted. “I hope I leave positivity wherever I go.”

Wow, what an amazing start to the school year at MES! A huge shout-out to our incredible principal, Mr. Jackson, and assistant principal, Mrs. Ross! They're still bringing that high energy and enthusiasm into the second week of school, and it's making all the difference. Their positive vibes are infectious, and it's so great to see how much they care about making this a fun and welcoming place for our kids.
