The Monticello Occupational Education Center staff believes that
every citizen should have a marketable skill. This school is one of
the institutions available to citizens of this area established and
operated by the Arkansas Vocational Education Division and the
Monticello School District No. 18. This school is established to
provide the opportunity for students in this area to train and
develop marketable skills in the areas of training offered here.
Successful completion of training programs offered by the school
will result in the development of acceptable attitudes, work habits,
and technical knowledge.
The students enrolled in this school should have the opportunity
to develop to his or her highest potential in the best learning
environment possible.
We believe the best learning environment would include these
components:
- An experienced, well-trained enthusiastic instructor who
sincerely cares about the students and is able to communicate
this concern to them.
- Classrooms and shops with up-to-date equipment which
duplicates as nearly as possible, the equipment found in the
world of work.
- Teaching aids, innovative techniques, and materials that
create a job-like atmosphere for the classroom, and/or shop.
We believe strategies and public relation techniques should be
developed to create an ever improving communication and working
relationships with business, industry, labor and management.
We believe that related experiences through short units of study
should be available to all students for greater employability and
personal development. Guidance service should be provided to assist
those persons seeking career and economic information.
We believe that the crafts committees representing each
occupation for which training is offered and the General Advisory
Committee are essential. Their function is to provide evaluation,
and/or recommendations, assist with placement, and keep the school
informed of changing technology.
We believe that continuing education should be an integral part
of staff development. Short courses, seminars, summer conference,
and regular industrial visitation are essential components of staff
development.
We believe the program evaluation, placement, and accountability
are components of good service and should be an on-going function of
the school staff.
We, at the Monticello Occupational Education Center, believe that
we must and will serve to the best of our ability all individuals
who enter our school regardless of sex, race, color, or creed.
