Course Description:  The course will address the elements and principles of design which includes, but is not limited to, line, shape, space, color, form, texture, value, balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and unity.  In addition, the student will be responsible for learning vocabulary, history, and appreciation of art.  The student will be keeping a portfolio of his/her work on all completed projects.

Course Objectives

 

1.       To provide the students with a variety of art making processes, increasing their vocabulary and expanding their understanding of art to assist in the building of a portfolio.

2.       To provide instruction in technical and craftsmanship skills.

3.       To expose students to a variety of media and methods of expression.

4.       To empower students to make informed decisions about their art making.

 

Homework:  There will be minimal homework.  Assignments are designed to be completed during the class within an appropriate timeline. 

 

Tests, assessments and evaluations:  Quizzes, written and skill tests, self and teacher evaluations will be administered periodically to check for student growth and understanding.

Grading Scale/Self-Evaluations:

 

Most students fall between the average to above average slots.

 

90 – 100          EXCEPTIONAL                     ADVANCED

80 – 89            ABOVE AVERAGE                PROFICIENT

70 – 79            AVERAGE                              BASIC

60 – 69            BELOW AVERAGE               BELOW BASIC

0 – 59              FAILING                                 FAILING

 

 

Hall Passes:  Each student has (3) hall passes in art per nine weeks.  If the student is tardy the 4th time or more, within a nine week period, the student will go to the office for an unexcused tardy.
