Fourth and fifth grade teachers at Monticello Intermediate School recently held Benchmark conferences with parents and students on an individual basis. Parents were given an appointment to come in to discuss their child’s scores on the Arkansas Benchmark exam administered last spring. These conferences gave the teachers an opportunity to share the results with the child and the parent and discuss the areas of strength as well as areas of needed improvement. Ways of assisting the child to improve in those needed areas were also outlined. Participation level was very high and the conferences proved to be a positive means of communication between teacher, parent, and student. Third grade conferences will be scheduled in the near future for the parents of third grade students to meet with teachers concerning their child’s scores from last spring’s SAT-10 exams.
Monticello Intermediate School teachers once again visited the homes of their students before school began in August in an effort to meet the students and parents before the first day of school. Last year was such a positive experience that they were truly excited about repeating the visits this year. The teachers visited in teams and made pictures with their students to be posted on the wall outside their classrooms on Open House night. Those students who weren’t available during the home visits had their pictures made with their teachers at Open House. MIS extends a heartfelt thanks to Commercial, Parkway, Simmons, and Union Banks for providing gas cards to the teachers to help with the expense of driving to the homes.
